Marquis de Lafayette(American Crush 21/25)
So he’s not technically American, seeing as he’s French. But I consider him an honorary American and I absolutely adore him, so he gets a spot here.
One of Washington’s most trusted general at age 19, he was instrumental in the success of the American Revolution. He believed in freedom so much that he gave up everything to help American gain hers. Yet another cool dude from the 18th century.
For the Heroes that fought for our country!

I’m not sure if it’s the hat, the accent or the bad-boy thing (he was an English general in the American revolutionary war, known as “Bloody Ban” for his characteristic massacres) but I’ve been into this evil-doer since a project on him in the eighth grade. Treason? Probably.

This painting is beautiful. When they commissioned it, it was so large, that it couldn’t be transported.
But DAMN. It makes the MFA beautiful.
I’ve never seen this before. I love it!!

This day in history:
The British army, under the command of Lieutenant General Lord Cornwallis, surrenders to American and French forces at Yorktown. Their surrender marks the final battle of the American revolution.
However the war doesn’t officially come to and end, and the United States of America are not officially recognized, until the Treaty of Paris is signed almost two years later on September 3, 1783.
October 19, 1781 - 230 years ago today.
